5 Notebooks To Take With You To The Seaside

With summer in full bloom, this might be the perfect moment to seek a serene getaway, far from the relentless pace of daily life—assuming you aren’t already lounging on a sun-drenched beach, savoring a mojito. Such vacations typically offer not only an opportunity for relaxation but also a precious chance to reconnect with oneself, organize one’s thoughts, and embrace new inspirations. We understand the importance of having an inspiring journal at hand—one that is portable and easily tucked into your beach bag or carried effortlessly. With this in mind, we have curated a selection of five notebooks, perfect for accompanying you to the seaside and enhancing your journaling experience.

Moleskine Classic Notebook Pocket Size

Moleskine notebooks have earned their place as a favorite among writers and artists worldwide. The Moleskine Classic Notebook is particularly ideal for seaside journaling. Its durable cover protects the pages from the occasional splash of water, while the elastic closure ensures that sand stays out. Besides the practicalities, I find the paper quality quite decent. However, if paper is a priority, you’ll find more premium options below.

Field Notes Notebook

Field Notes notebooks have become quite popular lately, with users praising the robust construction and portability of these notebooks. Besides the wide range of colors and designs, there is something different this US-made brand offers: waterproof notebooks. These are, of course, for the more adventurous among you, and the brand recommends them for expeditions. However, I think you can sligthly bend the rules and get one for the beach or on the boat. This way, if any water accidentally gets on it, there’s nothing to worry about. The paper of this notebook is a special ‘Yupo Syntehtic paper’ – an incredibly tearproof and waterproof paper extruded from polypropylene pellets in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Tomoe River Paper Pocket Notebook

If you can’t imagine journaling on ordinary paper, this notebook is for you. And I have to admit, I wouldn’t journal on a regular notebook either, and you may say: but it’s the thoughts and ideas that count. Well, journaling is a very intimate act with oneself, that’s why I like it to be and feel valuable to me. The paper is crucial to me and for this reason I recommend a notebook that is filled with one of the best on the market: Tomoe River. You can find them in a set of 3 notebooks containing the popular Tomoe River paper (52 gsm white paper). Easy to get to the beach and even more enjoyable to write on them.

Midori Notebooks

And we reached the end of the list, where I couldn’t not mention the Japanese notebook from Midori. Any of the aforementioned notebooks are great, but here’s why I think these notebooks may be ideal for seaside jorunaling. Unlike standard journals, Midori boasts a design that allows the user more comfort when writing. Their journals have no covers, which is why you not only have a better writing experience but you can also see how the notebook is made (see the mesh on the spine of the notebook). The exposed cheesecloth spine bends easily, keeping the notebook open perfectly. This means that whenever you need to jot down an idea in your journal, you quickly pull it out of your bag and there you go.
