One of my favorite hashtags ever is quite a long one: #makegreengreatagain. What started a couple of years ago with Eugenio Amos, Rally driver, Entrepreneur and creator of the fabulous Lancia Delta Integrale Futurista, shown for the first time in Basel in 2018, has arrived this year in the watch industry, with several manufacturer launching their most iconic models with a green dial. But what about green writing instruments? Let’s check them out.
Back in the first year of the 20th century, when the first motorsport events started like the Targa Florio, in 1906 or the Mille Miglia in 1927 as well as the Monco Grand Prix in 1929, the cars that took part to these races where colored with a precise scheme. The color was indicating their country of origin. This is why all the Italian cars such as the Alfa Romeo at the time (Ferrari came much later, in 1947) were Red, the British cars were colored in Green, the French were Blue and the German cars were White. Only later, they became Silver. But this is a story for another day. This was the birth of the colors on cars and marked, more or less the start of an era, where colors were distinctive for a specific brand, as mentioned above for Ferrari and Red.
Green time
However, since a couple of years, Green had an incredible revival, deserving even an own hashtag as mentioned above. And this is not only the case in the car industry, but also in the watch industry as we have seen this year. I have never seen so many models launched all in the same year with this common characteristic: the green dial. Patek Philippe Nautilus, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Rolex Oyster Perpetual and many more have been launched with this beautiful color and are very much appreciated by the public as you can see on the different blogs and social channels of the brands.

Green classic pen
We have talked extensively about one of the most beautiful green writing instruments. The Aurora Internazionale. A great piece that is certainly on the clssic side of design, no doubt. Another, this time exceptional piece is the Pelikan Raden Green Ray that features an abalone barrel and is predestinated to become a classic in the coming years. Finally, a Parker 51 in Green and metal cap is one of the pens that can’t be missed in a collection, as pointed out by Vanessa in her latest article. Along with these pens, the Cartier Tank and the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso match almost perfectly with their dark green dials.
Modern Design
A car manufacturer that is strongly related to green is, of course, Bentley. We reported about Woolf Barnato’s exceptional “Trainrace” back in 1930 The related pen by Graf von Faber-Castell, with it’s modern design is certainly one of the most appreciated writing instruments of the recent years. From the same manufacturer, the Guilloche ballpoint pen in Viper Green comes with a very fresh and young design. Perfect as an entry level pen for young people approaching the world of fine writing instruments. And they look at quite similar, sporty watches launched in the recent months such as the IWC Portuguiser or the Heuer Carrera as well as the Rolex Oyster perpetual. All rigorously with a green dial, what else.
Future evergreens
Now let’s fantasize a little bit about the future and let’s imagine how cool would be to have a dark green Montblanc Meisterstück line. Or what about a green Pelikan M1000 with a black ink window and a solid yellow gold nib? Just amazing, isn’t it? Or what about a Caran d’Ache Leman in dark green? I think they already had it once.
