Great achievements require time, not only in the pen industry. The British author of one of the best-selling series of novels, J.K. Rowling, knows best. It took her six years to write “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, the first book in the Harry Potter series and the main source of inspiration for one of Montegrappa’s latest collections – Harry Potter: Hogwarts Limited Edition.
If you’ve read Harry Potter or watched the films, you are already familiar with the adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione and the famous School of Witchcraft and Wizardry – Hogwarts. If not, you should give it a go.
To honour the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Montegrappa created a marvellous edition available in two finishes: one in sterling silver and the other in 18k gold, each decorated with characteristic ornaments and motifs. Speaking of ornaments, each pen shines like a gemstone. The cap and barrel are adorned with the coat of arms of all four houses represented in low-relief engraving and guilloché, illuminated with vivid vitreous enamel in the same colours displayed on the Hogwarts’ crest.
On each face of the barrel one can notice the Hogwarts coat of arms reproduced by lost-wax casting. The banner as well as the motto of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin encircle the piston knob of the pen. Reminiscent of the famous Philosopher’s stone, a red cabochon stone crowns the cap’s finial. All the decorative details are impressive and perfectly integrated, we must admit, but let’s briefly go through the technical features and see what you get from this edition. If you’re looking forward to buying a pen, note that each comes equipped with a handcrafted 18k gold nib masterfully engraved with Hogwarts coat of arms, an ebonite feed and the already famous piston-filling mechanism.
Aforementioned, there are two versions available: one in sterling silver limited to 142 fountain pens and rollerball pens as a reference to the staircases of Hogwarts castle whilst the other version in 18k gold is limited to 7 fountain pens and 4 rollerballs representing the school’s seven floors and the four houses as well.
