Sailor ‘Tea Time’ Series Makes A Stop In Morocco

With a history dating back over 5,000 years, tea is more than just a beverage and is enjoyed to this day all over the world, from China to Great Britain. A time-honored ritual for some while a therapeutic drink for others, and definitely a way of life for most of us out there, tea has the ability to put people in a positive and relaxing state of mind and is a great conversation companion and loyal confessor when we spend time in our own company. In today’s article, we’ll be taking a look at Sailor’s third collection inspired by tea-drinking traditions of the world.

But before we move on, do yourself a favor, it will make your read even more enjoyable. Prepare your favorite tea, pour it into a cup, make yourself comfortable in the armchair, and discover what’s new about this edition.

Sailor’s exploratory journey makes a stop in Morocco and draws inspiration from Moroccan Mint Tea for the third collection in their ‘Tea Time’ series. A common drink in some parts, a whole ceremonial ritual in others. Mint tea has a special significance and holds an important place in Moroccan culture being a symbol of hospitality. If you’ve already been to Morocco, you have probably been offered tea by your host.

The tea used in preparing Moroccan mint tea is Chinese green tea but before tea entered Moroccan culture, mint infused in hot water was the most commonly enjoyed drink. When British merchants introduced Chinese tea to Morocco, tea was added to the popular mint infusion, giving birth to Moroccan mint tea. Over time, this hybrid tea culture has flourished and become a symbol of the Moroccan way of living and hospitality.

The tea is prepared respecting the ritual, steeping green tea and mint in a teapot and sweetening it with sugar. When welcoming guests, tea is brewed in a traditional metal teapot called a ‘berad’ and served in ‘kissan’ glasses adorned with beautiful exotic designs.

The collection consists of 6 products: 3 pen models, 2 pen models and 1 ink bottle. Two of the pen models (the King of Pen version and the Regular PRO Gear version) are inspired by the beautiful “kissan” cups, adorned with exotic golden patterns, which are used to serve Moroccan mint tea.  According to Moroccan tradition, mint tea is poured from a height into the ‘kissan’, thus giving the tea a pleasant frothy texture and allowing the heavenly mint aroma to spread through the air.

The other pen model (Slim PRO Gear) is inspired by the color of the fresh, aromatic mint and the deliciously sweet sugar used to make Moroccan mint tea. Traditionally, the sugar used is cone-shaped toasted sugar, which is crushed before being put into the tea. It is also part of the Moroccan tea ceremony ritual.

Even though I’m not a big fan of two-tone pens, I find this collection very appealing. It’s great to see how faithfully Sailor managed to reproduce the colors on these pens. Not only the colors but also the gold trim harmoniously complement the whole design, both on the Kissan and Mint-Sugar versions.

I like the idea of creating this edition in different sizes to cater to every taste, but I would’ve liked to see the King of Pens version available in the Mint & Sugar design as well. Unfortunately, fans have to settle for the Kissan design. The good news though is that users have a slim version to choose from, available as both fountain pen and ballpoint pen.

As expected, this collection is in limited quantity. There are only 250 pieces of the King of Pen version, 1,400 pieces of the regular PRO Gear fountain pen as well as 1,900 pieces of the slim version. Both ballpoint pen versions are limited to 250 pieces while the ink bottles are limited to 3,700 pieces.

I can’t wait to see this live edition and I think I’ll order the slim version in green as it’s one of my favorite shades and will nicely complement my current pen collection and join me as I journal over a cup of warm, refreshing mint tea.
