The Montblanc Meisterstück has gone pastel, as the Hamburg-based manufacturer unveiled its latest collection, the Meisterstück Bloom.
After seeing the iconic Meisterstück mostly in black with gold or platinum trim for so long, I genuinely had to look twice when this new release landed in my inbox. Sure, Montblanc has been getting more adventurous lately. We’ve seen the Meisterstück in white (in Classique size only) and, more recently, burgundy red (although this shade isn’t new if we look back through the archives). But I honestly don’t remember seeing the Meisterstück quite this colourful.
Although I had mixed feelings at first, I have to say… I really like it. It’s cool and modern, something that’s been missing from the collection. It feels fresh without trying too hard. But what exactly inspired the Maison to make this move? Let’s find out!
“Inspired by the sparkling moments experienced along life’s many journeys, the writing instrument set brings a sense of lightness to the timeless Meisterstück design,” Montblanc says of the new release.
The set consists of three pieces, each in a different colour: Vermillion, a vivid orange-red hue; Matcha, which closely resembles the colour of the now-ubiquitous Japanese tea; and Corngold, a lively shade of yellow that reminds me of a sun-drenched field of sunflowers.
Each writing instrument in the collection is made of coloured precious resin with gold-coated trim and is offered exclusively as a fountain pen in the Classique size, just like the white Meisterstück. It measures 140 mm in length and 13.7 mm in diameter, weighing slightly over 20 g.
Now, who is this set for? Well, I’d say it’s for those who appreciate a touch of colour in their fountain pens and see them as a form of self-expression and creativity. I think this could be a dream set for any artist, designer or architect. If I were a fashion designer, I’d definitely get one.
It’s colourful, yet not so bold that it screams for attention. And Montblanc seems to have got the colours just right, so the set doesn’t end up looking cheap either.
As for the writing experience, you get the 14k gold nib used across the Classique platform. The fountain pens use a cartridge/converter filling system, and the set also includes a black grain-leather pouch, so you can keep all three pens close at hand and always be ready to write down your ideas and memories.
The set is priced at €4,245.95 and is available for pre-order through Montblanc and authorised retailers. I have to say, I would’ve preferred each piece to be sold separately. Selling the three pens exclusively as a set might ruffle a few feathers, especially among those who only have their eye on one particular colour.
