Wes Anderson for Montblanc – The SCHREIBERLING Limited Edition 1969

What began as a creative collaboration between Montblanc and acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson evolved into something far more iconic—a special edition pen designed by Anderson himself.

Many will remember the whimsical campaign film he directed for Montblanc’s 100th anniversary (watch here), a cinematic tribute to storytelling and craftsmanship. But behind the scenes in Berlin, something unexpected happened: Anderson unveiled a prototype of a pen he had personally imagined. The moment left the room, Montblanc’s CMO Vincent Montalescot included, speechless. Inspired by his vision, Montblanc decided to bring it to life. The result? A collector-worthy edition now available to those who appreciate Anderson’s meticulous visual world as much as Montblanc’s legacy in writing.

About Wes Anderson & His Collaboration with Montblanc

Wes Anderson is an American filmmaker known for his visually striking, emotionally resonant films, including The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, and The Royal Tenenbaums. With a unique eye for symmetry, color, and human complexity, he created a cinematic style of his own that is widely recognizable, thus becoming one of cinema’s most influential auteurs.

It all started when Montblanc asked Wes Anderson to direct an advertising campaign marking the 100th anniversary of the brand’s Meisterstück pen. The filmmaker not only agreed to the brief, but also insisted on playing the main character in front of the camera. Then, one day on set in Berlin, Anderson showed up with a prototype pen of his own design and asked the German company if they could manufacture it. He even had a name for it: The Schreiberling—German for “the scribbler.”

Crafted as part of the Montblanc Heritage Collection Rouge et Noir “Baby”, The Schreiberling reimagines the legendary “baby” pens of the 1910s and 1920s, the smallest writing instruments of their time, through Anderson’s distinctly whimsical lens. Limited to just 1,969 pieces, the edition pays homage to the director’s birth year and his lifelong fascination with charming, compact objects and nostalgic design.

True to Montblanc’s heritage of craftsmanship and innovation, the fountain pen stands out through exquisite detailing and features a retro-styled green lacquer finish—a nod to Anderson’s vintage-inspired color palette. The set also includes a matching notebook, a custom ruler, and a supply of green ink cartridges, designed to evoke the act of writing as an art form in its own right.

This edition reflects the shared values between the filmmaker and the Maison: a reverence for craftsmanship, storytelling, and the quieter rituals of life. Known for exploring themes of identity, integrity, and the pursuit of beauty, Anderson inspires a limited edition that becomes a creative companion, a tool for reflection, imagination, and expression, which speaks to those on a quest to turn life into purposeful art.

With this collaboration, Montblanc once again reaffirms its commitment to championing culture, individuality, and timeless design — this time, through the lens of one of cinema’s most visionary auteurs.

The Montblanc x Wes Anderson Schreiberling is available at montblanc.com and through authorized Montblanc retailers worldwide, priced at € 2.500,00.
