5 Otto Hutt Pens for Every Taste & Budget

With such a wide variety of designs, features, and prices, most users may find it difficult to choose the first or the next writing instrument. While some people know exactly what they want after looking for a particular model, for others the task is not that easy. I like to think there is a writing instrument for every taste, need, and budget, which is why today I’m going to introduce you to 5 models from Otto Hutt’s portfolio that I think should be in your collection.

design01 Matte Sage Green – the quintessence of understated elegance

The design01 is a testament to Otto Hutt’s philosophy of understated elegance. Far from being pretentious, this pen captivates with its simplicity and comes in an array of shades and finishes. My favorite is one of their designs launched in 2022, the design01 Sage Green but they’ve recently launched the new Apricot – tribute to Pantone’s Color of the Year 2024. Besides its matte finish, I like the portability of this pen. It can easily fit into your pocket or bag, making it an ideal companion for any writer on the go. Despite its unassuming appearance, the pen’s weight and construction speak volumes about its quality, offering a balanced and comfortable writing experience that rivals its counterparts.

design02 honeycomb: cool pattern in Sterling Silver

The design02 honeycomb is nothing short of a marvel for those who appreciate unique designs. Adorned with a cool guilloche pattern that mimics the geometric precision of a honeycomb, this pen is a visual and tactile delight. There are other, more classic pens in the lineup like the thread guilloche or the rectangular, but this one stands out the most, in my opinion. I would also mention here the fact that it’s a fully sterling silver pen priced under $250, and that makes it an exceptional value-for-money piece. The honeycomb pattern is not just aesthetically pleasing but also offers a unique grip, enhancing the writing experience without compromising on style.

design04 wave guilloche: classic with a twist

Otto Hutt’s Design04, with its Wave Guilloche pattern, is a pen that stands out for its three-dimensional artistry. The intricate guilloche pattern, reminiscent of undulating waves, is then meticulously coated for a unique shine and visual effect. This pen is a testament to high-quality construction and boasts a very unique design that captures the imagination. Unlike the aforementioned models, you can opt for an 18k gold on this one. The latest design in their lineup is the Lila Wave Guilloche, but there are plenty of other designs if you’re not a big fan of violet. This pen has got some weight to it, which makes it very enjoyable to write with.

design05: versatility in design and function

This is a pen not much celebrated by users, perhaps for its size? Maybe, although I find it quite practical. Now, is it worth collecting? If you also collect pocket pens, then yes, it’s a cool addition, especially for its dual functionality; not only is it a regular writing instrument, but it also serves as a stylus for smartphones or tablets. This feature makes the design05 a versatile tool for the modern writer who navigates between traditional note-taking and digital creativity. The pen’s specs are well thought out, ensuring that it doesn’t compromise on performance in either mode of use. If you appreciate efficiency and style this is a cool gadget to secure.

design08: the icon of Otto Hutt’s collection

Well, this is the pen you’ve been waiting for on this list, and here it is: the Bauhaus star, design08. The epitome of the brand’s commitment to innovation and design excellence, designed in collaboration with Star Designer Mark Braun, this pen draws inspiration from the clean lines and functional approach of Bauhaus. An interplay of horizontal and vertical guilloche, a mighty 18k gold nib and the innovative Pull+Twist filling mechanism, which makes the ink-filling ritual a joy. Although it comes in three colors, the Ruthenium version is still my favorite because it has the most Otto Hutt appeal. It would be great to collect them all, but if you want to pick just one that’s iconic, go for Ruthenium or Allblack.
