Fountain Pen Day 2025 – Celebrating The Beauty of Analog Writing

Every year, on the first Friday of November, a quiet movement unfolds among those who still believe in the charm of ink and paper. Across desks, cafés, and studios, people take a moment to reconnect with an old ritual: writing by hand.

This year, Fountain Pen Day arrives on November 7th, 2025, an occasion to pause, reflect, and enjoy the tactile pleasure of putting words on paper.

Why We Celebrate

Why write by hand when almost everything can be typed faster, neater, and shared instantly? It’s a question many have asked, and yet, those who write know the answer instinctively.

Writing slows you down. It gives your thoughts time to breathe, space to form, and rhythm to unfold. The act itself is grounding; it draws you away from the noise of screens and notifications and places you squarely in the present.

There’s also an undeniable satisfaction in it. The slight drag of the nib, the beauty of a blank page waiting to be filled with ideas, the small ceremony of starting a line, all of it makes writing feel purposeful.

That’s what Fountain Pen Day celebrates: not nostalgia, but presence. Not the past, but the enduring beauty of doing one thing well, by hand.

The Joy of Writing

Sit down with a pen and paper for five minutes and something changes. The pace of thought adjusts. The noise softens. Your ideas begin to take shape in their own time.

It’s a small act, but one that’s surprisingly restorative. In a world that measures speed and output, writing is an invitation to slow down and pay attention. Each stroke is a reminder that the process matters as much as the outcome.

For many, handwriting isn’t just a means of communication, it’s a way of thinking.

Ways to Mark the Day

There’s no right way to celebrate Fountain Pen Day. Some people write postcards to friends. Others journal. A few revisit pens they haven’t used in years, cleaning them, refilling them, and starting fresh.

You could share a photo of your writing setup with #FountainPenDay and #FountainPenDay2025, or simply take a quiet moment to put your thoughts on paper. The point isn’t what you write, it’s that you write.

Still, if you’d rather celebrate in company, there’s a gathering worth noting.

To mark this year’s occasion, Style of Zug, a Swiss-based boutique of fine writing instruments, will host a six-hour livestream dedicated to all things writing. From 4 PM to 10 PM CET, expect a well-paced programme blending conversation, insight, and inspiration.

On the agenda:

  • Collector talks, with enthusiasts sharing stories and perspectives
  • A review of 2025 pen launches, alongside a look at what’s to come.
  • A calligraphy masterclass, for those curious to refine their handwriting
  • “Watches & Pens” with Marko Koncina, a unique dialogue on the inseparable pairing between watches and pens.
  • A live Q&A session, inviting viewers to join the conversation.

You can enter the livestream here.

“It was a challenging concept, but nothing is ever too crazy or too difficult when it comes to our passion for writing and pens. Above all, we wanted to offer our friends and customers something truly meaningful. It took us an entire month to prepare, 30 pieces of content in total. And to make the day even more special, we’ll be joined by some wonderful guests who are driving over especially for the event,” says Samuel Naldi, founder of the boutique.

It’s an event designed not for spectacle, but for genuine exchange: six hours of craftsmanship, conversation, and shared appreciation for writing.

So tomorrow, take a few minutes to write: it doesn’t have to be much, maybee just a few lines that belong to you.

Because in the end, Fountain Pen Day is a reminder of something simple: that writing, in its purest form, still has the power to slow us down, sharpen our thoughts, and make us feel human again.
