Montegrappa Goldfinger Anniversary Edition

Following the success of previous editions like the 007 Spymaster Duo and the 007 Special Edition in black, Montegrappa marked the 60th anniversary of Goldfinger‘s debut with the release of another special edition at the end of 2024. Let’s discover it below!

Goldfinger – A Cinematic Masterpiece

Goldfinger (1964), the third film in the James Bond franchise, directed by Guy Hamilton, revolutionized the spy genre and is widely considered the greatest Bond film of all time. Starring Sean Connery as the iconic 007, the movie follows Bond on his mission to thwart Goldfinger’s plan to detonate a nuclear device inside Fort Knox, the United States’ gold depository.

In addition to the Bond movie action, Jill Masterson’s gold-tinted body and the phenomenal special effects, the centerpiece of Goldfinger was Bond’s gadget-filled – an Aston Martin DB5 equipped with machine guns, a smoke screen, oil slick dispensers, and an ejector seat – it became one of the most famous vehicles in film history.

More than 60 years after its release, Goldfinger continues to resonate strongly with fans, which is why Montegrappa has launched an anniversary edition to mark the occasion. Introduced at the end of 2024, the edition sold out on the official Montegrappa website, but for the fortunate few, a handful of pieces can still be found at some authorized retailers.

The Design & Key Features

The Goldfinger Special Edition is a tribute to the movie Goldfinger and is built on an all-metal chassis. While it may seem too heavy at first glance, it’s only 55 grams you have to deal with for the fountain pen version and 60 grams for the rollerball alternative. The edition combines materials such as brass, aluminum, and serrated steel and it stands out for its sandblasted finish, the aluminum knurling pattern, and of course, the gold finish – a reference to the iconic Goldfinger movie.

Being an anniversary edition, I was expecting to see more iconic motifs from the movie Goldfinger illustrated on the writing instrument, but besides the Rifled steel ‘gun barrel’ insert on the cap’s finial – a nod to the legendary opening sequence of Bond films – and the 007 shadow logo,  the edition doesn’t show any other significant details. It is, however, a beautifully designed edition with strong collectible appeal, but it falls slightly short of the more elaborate Spymaster Duo.

The same 007 logo is embossed on the 14k gold nib which is available in extra-fine, fine, medium, broad, and Stub 1.1mm. It uses cartridges or converter for the filling system and is accompanied by a special notebook and Goldfinger zip case so you’re always prepared for action.

Montegrappa produced this edition in a strictly limited edition of 707 fountain pens and rollerballs, making it a great collector’s item as well as a charming gift idea.

Fountain pen: € 1,295
Rollerball pen: € 750
