Everyone has a fascination with something— for some, it’s a watch; for others, a car. For me, it was a fountain pen, and it all started when I was in school. The very fountain pen that changed my perception of handwriting has now been launched by Pelikan in a new red-marble shade. Yes, I’m talking about the M200 series. I’m thrilled to see a new hue added to the lineup, and I’m already considering whether to get one for myself, especially since I have a soft spot for red.
Before diving into this edition, I’d like to continue my story with the Pelikan M200, which, by the way, I believe is an absolutely wonderful pen from many perspectives — build quality, design, and writing
Long before I entered the pen industry, I was captivated by Pelikan, and not a day went by without me reading about or watching videos on their pens — particularly the entry-level series, which were quite affordable on a student’s budget. Back then, handwriting wasn’t really my thing. I remember feeling frustrated with how my writing looked on paper—it even gave me nightmares. But the M200 completely changed the way I viewed and approached handwriting. The moment I got my first M200, something clicked. From then on, I found myself enjoying handwriting more than ever.
It could have been the nib, or perhaps the design of the pen, that made me decide I wanted to improve my handwriting and eventually learn new styles.
The Edition
The Pelikan M200 Red Marble is the latest addition to the M200 series and, according to the brand, promises to take things to a whole new level. This special edition joins the existing models in green, blue, and brown and is a real eye-catcher. If you rotate the pen, especially in light, you will notice a change in its color, that is probably my favorite aspect about the design. “The dynamic interplay of deep reds and subtle highlights creates an exciting visual experience, while the smooth, marble-like texture makes each pen a true work of art,” says the brand.
Though the design is not more special than previous editions, I find the contrast between red, black, and gold incredibly appealing. It is for sure a shade the series needed, and probably a lot of enthusiasts have expected it.
What I’ve always appreciated about the M200 series is that it offers a piston-filling mechanism in a pen that costs just slightly over €150. For that price, you also get a gold-plated stainless steel nib that writes beautifully. I have mine in EF, and it’s perhaps one of the most reliable and enjoyable steel nibs I’ve written with.
Who Is This Pen For
I wouldn’t categorise this fountain pen too drastically, which is why I think it’s ideal for anyone looking for a stylish pen with a decent-performing nib and a piston-filling system. If you’re a student, it’s probably more budget-friendly, but if you already own hundreds of pens and like this design, just go for it.
At the end of the day, it’s all about how a fountain pen makes us feel when we use it.
