Good news for ink enthusiasts: Pelikan has just announced a new shade in its popular Edelstein® Ink of the Year Collection. This year’s ink is inspired by the charm of Apricot Agate and features a soft orange hue that brings a gentle yet captivating vibrancy to paper, according to the brand.
No Shimmer This Year
Unlike in previous years, Pelikan has ditched shimmer for this edition—to the delight or disappointment of users. But os removing the shimmer a smart move? It could be. In fact, I know many people who prefer shimmer-free inks, which is why I think this ink could be a good approach, possibly generating a lot of interest. However, I’m keeping my expectations low until I see the ink on paper. It might even have a lovely sheen, which I personally prefer over shimmer.
The Color
Looking at the ink bottle, the color appears quite saturated to me. “This color combines the warmth of apricot with delicate golden undertones, reflecting the harmony and balance of the gemstone itself,” says the brand. However, it may look different on paper, which is why I think having a color sample displayed on the Pelikan website in the future would greatly help in understanding the ink shade. If there is a strong connection between the stone and the ink color, I expect the ink to start as a pale orange and develop into a more saturated, rich-orange sheen.
Apricot Agate: The Inspiration Behind the Ink
Apricot Agate is a type of quartz found in regions with volcanic activity, such as Madagascar and Brazil, where most of these stones are primarily sourced. Its hues range from soft peach to deep orange, and it is known for its soothing and nurturing qualities. It is no coincidence that Pelikan chose this stone as the inspiration for their new ink. According to the brand, the new ink is set to enhance creativity and promote a positive state of mind for users.
Availability
As with each year’s edition, the Pelikan Edelstein Ink of The Year Apricot Achat is only available during the current year or as long as supply lasts and is expected to launch in March 2025 to mark a fresh start to spring. Price-wise, we expect the 50ml ink to remain in the same €20.00 range.
