Pelikan Introduces the New M1000 Renaissance Brown

It is already a tradition for Pelikan to launch limited editions based on the iconic M1000 model, but while everyone was probably expecting a Maki-e or Raden edition, Pelikan surprised its fans with a slightly unusual limited edition. The brand has recently launched a new M1000 limited edition that echoes the beloved M800 Renaissance Brown launched back in 2017. Let’s dive into the specs and see what’s new in this edition!

I must admit I was surprised to see the return of a classic that fascinated me at the time of its launch in the M800 version. However, I would have liked Pelikan to release a truly special edition, instead of pulling a design out of the archives and just putting it on a larger model like the M1000. If I weren’t so captivated by the Renaissance Brown’s stellar design, I might be tempted to think that the design team at Pelikan, now under the Hamelin Group, is hitting a rough patch.

Design & Size

I’ve always found the M1000 to have an imposing allure, and the new Renaissance Brown is no different. In fact, I think this pearlescent finish fits perfectly on the large chassis of the M1000 series and it gives the pen a unique charm. “The acrylic material is loved for its stunning pearly effects, combined with brown and crème-colored shades. It creates a unique impression for every pen.” – pelikan-passion.com

At almost 33g in weight and 14.6cm long with cap, the new M1000 is for those who prefer larger pens, but still believe it can be used by anyone as long as it doesn’t become uncomfortable during writing sessions.

Material & Nib

Pelikan has always excelled in materials and has never compromised on quality, which is why the new edition is made from high-grade resin with the clips and rings being highly polished and coated in 24k gold. I have a feeling that every edition of this design will shine so beautifully in the light and be a pleasure to write with.

Nothing new about the nib, same iconic engraved Pelikan design and 18k gold construction. It comes available in EF, F, M and B and offers probably one of the juiciest writing experiences, even in the extra-fine version. So if you like the finer writing style, I recommend you take your pen to a nib master.

Price & Availability

According to several retailers, the new limited edition is priced at EUR 800 and will be available from May. I see the price as pretty reasonable considering what the user gets, and I think many users will add this piece to their collection. Especially those who wanted it when the M800 Renaissance Brown was released but hesitated at the time. That being said, I hope you’ll get your hands on one of these new limited editions when they are launched.
