Pelikan Launches Two New Special Editions: Toledo® 910 White & Souverän® 800 Cream Blue

After launching the special edition M670 Warm Grey which debuted with the brand’s first black PVD Coated Nib, Pelikan is launching 2 new models on the M800 and M910 chassis. As a user and collector, I’m glad to see that Pelikan continues to innovate keeping up with the rest of the industry. At the same time, one of the models seems to be a revival of an iconic edition of the brand,  which is another reason for collectors to rejoice. That said, let’s briefly discover each edition!

Pelikan Souverän® 800 Cream Blue

Pelikan’s decision to mix cream and blue is by far one of the most inspired choices. I’ve seen the M800 in many color combinations over the years, but I find this one hard to match in elegance.

The lustre of the colors heralds the quality finish that anyone expects from a manufacturer like Pelikan and the combination of the gold elements with the overall color palette of the pen are in perfect harmony. I also like that you can easily monitor the ink level through the ink-window, which is slightly more transparent than the rest of the pen.

Already an iconic feature for the manufacturer over the years, the specific piston feed system is equipped on the new M800 model. To complete the overall look, the pen is crowned with a two-tone 18k nib, available in EF, F, M, and B sizes.

The generous size and interesting color combination make this edition an excellent choice for those who are looking to buy a nice pen they can rely on (given the great performance Pelikan si known for), but I also see this pen as a perfect gift option.

Important note: The 800 Cream Blue series is available only for a limited time from mid October 2024.

Pelikan Toledo® 910 White

The second launch is a tribute to the legendary model in the manufacturer’s portfolio and a sequel to the series: I’m talking about the famous Toledo model introduced in 1931, now one of the most sought-after vintage models.

Pelikan Toledo 1931 Vintage Edition

This design is inspired by the intricate “Damascening” technique, which originated in Toledo, Spain, and involves inlaying precious metals, such as gold or silver, into steel surfaces. The pen’s barrel is handcrafted by master artisans, with layers of precious metals overlaid on a base material, then etched with beautiful ornamental motifs.

Starting from the base and up to the final stage, each model goes through several elaborate steps, many of which are done by hand. The highlight of this edition and the most difficult to create is the decorative sleeve. The special pelican motif you see is refined by hand by a goldsmith with many expressive details, so that the very individual detail gives the writing instrument a unique touch. Two pelican motifs can be seen on the surrounding 925 sterling silver sleeve: a small pelican stands together in front of a pelican with widened wings and the second motif shows a pelican with an open beak. Both motifs are framed by ornaments.

During the manufacturing process, the design is etched onto the sleeve and then the filigree details are stitched by hand. To seal the design, the surface of the barrel is then coated with palladium.

As with the aforementioned model, Pelikan’s designers have chosen the color combination excellently, and I like that they went for a one-tone 18k nib that matches the silver accents on the clip and rings. The nib is available in EF, F, M, and B nib sizes.

The package of this limited edition was chosen according to the caliber of the pen: a white piano lacquered Toledo gift box, showing that the focus on the user goes beyond the product itself.

Besides its beauty, I see huge collecting potential in this edition.

Important note: The Toledo 910 White Special Edition is available only for a limited time from mid October 2024.
