Pelikan Souverän M815 Metal Striped Green: Time to Finally Get One?

Pelikan is closing out Q3 with a new addition to its Metal Striped series, following the success of the Maki-e Four Seasons Lucky Charm, launched in August. As some of you probably already know, this is the third edition in the series and, if I’m being honest, the coolest one so far. Pelikan debuted the series in 2018 with the first model in black with metal stripes, followed by the blue version in 2025. Now that Pelikan has finally turned to green, a colour arguably most closely associated with the German manufacturer, I’m sure it will spark some interest among the house’s most devoted fans.

Personally, I’ve been waiting for a green model in the series since the very beginning. But you know how the saying goes… better late than never. Now it’s here, and it’s absolutely superb. Without further ado, let’s take a closer look!

The new Souverän M815 Metal Striped Green comes in a darker shade of green. Flanked by a piston knob and cap in green precious resin, polished metal stripes run along the barrel, creating reflections that shift as the pen catches the light. If you want a modern-looking pen that still retains Pelikan’s classic pedigree, this is it.

The pen is based on the M815 chassis, the second largest in the brand’s portfolio, and uses a solid metal barrel that adds to its weight, but not so much that it becomes cumbersome. At around 36 grams, it feels noticeably more substantial in the hand than lighter resin pens like the M400 or M600, while remaining comfortable even during longer writing sessions.

Talking to different collectors over the years, I’ve learnt that some actually prefer heftier pens to lighter ones because the extra weight gives them a greater sense of quality.

The silver-toned theme extends to the palladium-plated rings, clip, and cap finial, as well as the 18k gold nib, which is rhodium-coated to match the overall look of the edition.

Performance-wise, the new M815 has got everything one can expect from a model of its calibre. It’s got the size, the weight and the allure of a timeless classic. Plus, it comes with Pelikan’s established piston-filling system, whose 1.35 ml ink capacity is just enough to keep you going without having to reach for the ink bottle too often. It’s a system the brand has refined over decades and one that should prove reliable for years to come.

The rhodium-coated 18k nib is offered in four widths: EF, F, M and B, covering a broad range of writing styles. The special edition is priced at around €900 and, according to Pelikan, will be produced in limited quantities. The brand has not, however, disclosed the exact number of pieces.
