Visconti Heads East With Their Latest Collection

It’s no longer a secret that writing instruments have long since outgrown their functional purpose and become a status symbol, a totem that indicates one’s preferences, like other such goods be it watches, cars, jewelry, etc. And this is nothing new. Since ancient times, people have shown their status or personal preferences through various items: from the architecture of their homes to interior decoration or jewellery. Inspired by the impressive ancient Eastern culture, Visconti has designed the new ‘Looking East’ collection, bringing a small part of Asia’s rich heritage closer to the people of culture.

Design

Opulence. It’s the first word that comes to mind when I look at this edition. From the rose gold that coats the pen from one end to the other to the finely engraved sterling silver filigree, this pen simply captures your imagination. A tribute to Asian architecture and craftsmanship, the pattern that stretches across the pen is inspired by the fanciful latticework that used to be the traditional ornaments found on many doors and windows of many residences at that time.

In ancient times, one’s house was a reflection of one’s taste, status, and wealth, and therefore many houses boasted very tastefully crafted architecture. To recreate those motifs, Visconti’s craftsmen carved each small panel into a symmetrical, repeated squared pattern carrying forward the tradition and showcasing their craftsmanship. The intricate detailing harmoniously complements the rich, pearlescent deep blue resin that lies beneath it.

Nib & Filling system

Although we would have liked to see a 23k gold nib on this edition, since Visconti has discontinued these nibs, the 18k gold nib will do just fine. Nothing has changed in terms of design, the nib shines just as beautifully as always with the iconic Lily engraving on it. Let’s move on to the filling system which is a delight for those who prefer a generous ink capacity.

This edition is equipped with the famous Power Filler Double Reservoir that acts pretty much like a portable bottle of ink. (as soon as the ink in the small reservoir runs out, you transfer the ink from the large reservoir and continue writing)

Availability

The collection is offered in two variations of writing instruments: fountain pen and a rollerball pen. Due to the painstaking manufacturing process, each version is limited to only 188 pieces worldwide, available on visconti.it as well as at various authorized retailers.
