5 Otto Hutt Pens for Any Taste and Budget

If you’ve been working with writing instruments for a few years, the name Otto Hutt is probably very familiar to you. Well, the German brand not only has a well-established range of writing instruments, but continues to expand its portfolio quite often lately, offering its users as much diversity as possible. Their latest addition is the design01 in matte red (read here). However, today’s article is not about novelties but rather about 5 of their designs for every taste and budget.

design01 – reliable & affordable with an elegant look

This series is the essence of the German brand encapsulated in a classic design at a very decent price. It doesn’t impress, but it doesn’t disappoint either. It’s exactly what you need if you’re looking for practicality and quality in a stylish design. It’s the kind of pen you take with you everywhere you go without fear of losing it, and you’re not afraid to hide it away when it comes to signing something important. It comes in a wide range of finishes and colors from matte to glossy surfaces in all four writing instrument versions: mechanical pencil, ballpoint, rollerball and fountain pen.

design04 – Classic, bigger & with unique ornaments

We’ve already gotten to a collection that by far exudes the German Otto Hutt spirit. With a classic design, considerably larger than its design01 counterpart and available in many more finishes including several guilloche designs – a technique for which Otto Hutt is considered a master in the writing instrument industry, the design04 is already the range that offers a broader range of aesthetic options and 18k gold nib as an option to the steel nib. My favorite is the wave guilloche design, however there are many more to explore like the matte ones or the other guilloche patterns.

design07 – The Flagship Pen

It’s not for nothing that Otto Hutt presents it as their flagship pen: solid 925 sterling silver barrel, an XL 18k gold nib, and a sleek design. In my opinion, the design07 is the clear competitor to the Montblanc 149 or the Montegrapp Extra 1930 in terms of looks and performance. It’s and feels like a very solid pen, heavy but not so heavy as to be uncomfortable to write with, and incredibly elegant. It can effortlessly draw attention in a conference room but is still discreet enough to go unnoticed.

design08 – Bauhaus Design & Innovation

Unlike design07, design08 is definitely a pen you can’t ignore, even if you wanted to. Because it’s unique in every way. The German brand collaborated with one of the world’s most renowned designers, Mark Braun, to create a Bauhaus inspired pen and invested a lot of expertise in the Pull+Twist filling system. It is probably one of the smartest purchases you can make not only because of the unique design but also the engineering behind it. It’s truly a game of symmetry and precision. Its ergonomic design ensures a comfortable writing experience, while its minimalist look aligns perfectly with the tastes of the modern, tech-savvy individual. Since the launch of the first model in ruthenium gray, the series expanded with two more designs that complete it so harmoniously.

designC – designC – Collector’s Pen

In this pen lies the whole German spirit of Otto Hutt with all its heritage and expertise, which is why I believe that if you are a discerning collector, you should own this piece. It comes in a highly-polished 925 sterling silver body with an incredibly clean design and no clip, but a solid 18kt yellow gold index on the barrel and cap that prevents the pen from rolling off any surface. It’s limited to only 500 pieces worldwide and there are still quite a few copies left. The pen is also the creation of Star Designer Mark Braun and features the iconic Pull+Twist filling mechanism. Given it’s a limited edition that celebrates the 100th anniversary of Otto Hutt, you should expect to spend quite a bit on it, around €2,500.00. If you ask me, the value of this pen is much higher, considering the milestone it celebrates and the impeccable craftsmanship.
