Football, in many ways, is a great equalizer for nations. With its ability to draw crowds, transcend national boundaries, and bring together friends and competitors alike, it’s one way that, despite differences, shows how similar many of us are. In fact, across the world, football is considered the most popular sport, with nearly 3.5 billion fans. The next closest sport, cricket, loses out by about a billion.
This month marks the 22nd FIFA World Cup. A contest that runs every four years, every World Cup has a certain amount of draw and prestige to it. The finalists will compete from 20 November to 18 December, giving us nearly an entire month to root for our favorite team. Not only that, but this is said to be the largest World Cup to date: nearly 5 billion viewers will tune in throughout the events.
What’s more, this occasion has the added honor of being the first FIF World Cup to be held in the Middle East. It is an honor for many countries to be asked to host the World Cup and especially for Qatar, who will have the additional honor of representing their global region to such a large audience.
In celebration of this momentous occasion, Montegrappa has partnered with FIFA to create a one-of-a-kind special edition pen. Called the “Al Tarikh Yuktab” (or “the history is written” in Arabic), this pen is a modified luxury pen using the QUATTRO silhouette, but decorated to highlight the majesty of Qatar and the sport of football itself.
The pen is a stainless steel body with a yellow gold overlay. The body of the pen is reminiscent of stadium seating for the sporting event. The cap’s detailing includes a stadium contour clip, a football “ruzzolino” clamp, and a sapphire crystal emblem of the FIFA 2022 Qatar logo. Each pen is numbered (rollerball and fountain pen are both limited to a 300 piece production). The fountain pen comes with an 18k nib and is priced at €2,500. The rollerball is priced at €1,800.
This pen is one way to represent the global sensation of a sport that also highlights that historic firsts like this are meant to be celebrated and cherished. And what better way to do it than with a gorgeous fountain pen?
