Meet the New Face of Montblanc: Zinedine Zidane

Earlier this year, Montblanc tapped Zinedine Zidane as the next face of their brand. This ambassadorship highlights the progressive approach that Montblanc continues to take in making Montblanc a lifestyle company, not just a luxury goods company.

To understand this decision, one must first know a bit more about Mr. Zidane. Zinedine Zidane, or “Zizou” as he is known, is considered by many to be one of the most celebrated footballers in France and abroad. Zizou made a name for himself for his competitive gamesmanship as an attacking midfielder. Because of this, he was named the FIFA World Player of the Year in 1998, 2000, and 2003. Further accolades include being listed on the FIFA 100, a list of the world’s greatest players, being named player of the year at the UEFA Euro 2000, and receiving the Golden Ball in the 2006 World Cup. This is just a small record of his many accomplishments.

But it was after 2010 when he retired from the sport and began coaching that a second life for Zizou began. He would go on to lead the helm of Madrid Real, reinventing his career and showcasing his talents on and off the field.

It is with this resilience and skill in mind that makes sense for Montblanc to select Zinedine Zidane as the next face of the brand. Zizous has shown time and again that persistence and a decidedly forward-moving philosophy build a life that’s full of enrichment and success. He embodies the brands ethos of “What moves you makes you.”

Zizou’s fearless approach to the game – and by extension, his own life – can inspire millions (and look handsome while doing it!).

Nicolas Baretzki, Montblanc CEO, shares this sentiment in his statement:

“Zinédine Zidane is the ultimate Montblanc Mark Maker, a man who makes his mark not only on the world of sport but has had an incredible impact on the global stage. He is living proof that following what moves you in life leads you to a place of fulfilment and success. He is an inspiration to so many across generations, and we are delighted to be collaborating with Zinédine, writing a new chapter together in his extraordinary story.”

Between the recent Al Tarikh Yuktab release by Montegrappa and this selection by Montblanc, we’re seeing a welcome approach to sports into the luxury pen community. No longer is the fountain pen reserved for a scholar or a businessman at his desk, but it’s equally appropriate for an athlete who enjoys the finer things in life.
